Jun. 17th, 2010 03:52 pmHave been sick with a very tenacious cold for the past couple of days. It's been very obnoxious and has mostly involved me sitting in front of things staring at them or sleeping. Sometimes I eat, too. [Tangent: which YAY! FOOD! because my appetite's been for crap for weeks so I've been going from 'Ugh, the idea of food is nauseating' to 'OMG IF I DON'T EAT NOW I'LL DIE' which is all kinds of frustrating and not healthy.]
Also, because I'm a ginormous nerd, I've been reading Doris Kearns Goodwin's Lincoln biography A Team of Rivals. Yes, I've been reading it while I've been sick, it's very accessibly written and she's an engaging storyteller. Weirdly, reading about all of the bullcrap Lincoln had to put up with makes me feel better about the current political situation. Well, not about everything (I can't even read things about the oil spill in the Gulf without having to curl up into a ball and scream) but it has helped put OTT Tea Party shenanigans in perspective.
Also, funny note, if you talk to most Tea Partiers they won't say that they're racists or that their actions have racist motivations. And yet racial rhetoric has been a key part of the basis of the Tea Party founders' (aka Fox News') demagoguery. Which is, you know, observationally interesting.
Okay, if I can use the term "demagoguery" in a sentence I guess I do feel well enough to write a slip-and-fall brief. Pedantry FTW! or something.
