YOU GUYS! HI! It's been forever, I know.

I saw The Hobbit in IMAX 3D yesterday. I don't have a lot of thoughts about that movie, I've seen it 3 times now (mostly for social reasons), it's fun and adventurous. The IMAX 3D is pretty amazing, not so much with the 3D gimmicks (though there were a few of those) but more with the incredible depth it added to the movie viewing process. It was used to enhance and some things, like the mines in Erebor, looked amazing. Totally worth the fleeting moments of motion sickness and the eyestrain headache it caused.

BUT! THERE WAS A STAR TREK TRAILER! It was, like, the first 3 minutes of the movie and WHY IS NO ONE TALKING ABOUT THIS? It gave me SO MANY FEELS!111!!@@!!!

So, it starts off with a couple (one of whom is Noel Clarke OMG Mickey Smith is in this movie even for a minute it's AMAZING!) who have a very sick child and Evil!Benedict Cumberbatch comes up to Mickey and is all "I can save your child" in a really ominous voice and IT'S AWESOME OKAY! It's like Benedict Cumberbatch is the Master and OMG!

Then it cuts to Kirk and McCoy on an away mission. They have to save a primitive alien tribe from a volcano and Kirk's great idea to get the locals out of their village is to steal their sacred religious artifact and run away with it. Because of course it is. Good thinking Jimmy T! Bones is exasperated and it's all kind of awesome. Meanwhile Spock is suiting up to set some kind of cooling bomb in the volcano so the entire species isn't wiped out and it all ends with Spock stuck in the volcano ready to die (Prime Directive blah blah blah blah) and the crew anxious to save him. And scene!

SO AWESOME! I'm annoyed that the Khan theories have added credence (I mostly didn't want Cumberbatch to be Khan because everyone thought he was) but if he is Khan they're doing more of a "Doctor Bashir eugenics" storyline and less of a "look who we found floating in outer space!" storyline so that's cool. It could be very interesting.

My current theory is that it will be Kirk who will sacrifice himself for the ship. It would be a neat twist on the whole Wrath of Khan thing and we already have a Spock who is willing to sacrifice himself for the Prime Directive so his martyr complex is well-established which would make a Kirk sacrifice the better twist. But that's just my current theory.

SO EXCITE!

Oh, that's right, I did have some Hobbit thougts, namely Thorin/Balin y/y? In the book Bilbo and Balin have a good friendship but in the movie Thorin and Balin are just so devoted to each other and kind of sweet, in a dwarvish way. It makes Thorin's death even worse because Balin is so broken up by it that he can't live in peace in Erebor, he has to go try to reclaim Moria and IT KILLS HIM AND OMGOMGOMG! Also, everybody loves Bilbo, as they should. Hey PJ, MORE BILBO PLZ!
